Get a Taste of Flight!

What’s the best way to see if flying is for you? Take an airplane for a spin! Rochester Air Center offers several types of introductory flights.

An FAA Certified Flight Instructor guides you through each. You’ll join your instructor for an abbreviated flight brief, pre-flight inspection of the airplane, and you’ll take the controls for most of the flight! At the end of the flight, the instructor will discuss opportunities for you to continue flying, if you find it’s your passion! This includes a flight log. Your instructor will log the flight for you, and it will count toward the flight time required to earn a certification!

We find it is best to answer questions in person or via telephone. Schedule your introductory flight experience today by calling our front desk at 585-328-8839.

For those of you who have been dreaming of flying for a long time and think you’re ready to begin working toward a certificate, or you are planning to be a professional pilot, we recommend this option!

Or are you already a certificated pilot thinking about making a transition to the Cirrus SR20, but want to make sure it’s right for you? Take the airplane for a spin with one of our Cirrus Instructors, and they’ll give you a sneak peek into what you can expect to learn in our Cirrus Ground Training and VFR/IFR Flight Transition Courses. You’ll get a brief overview of the avionics, CAPS system, Cirrus philosophy, and of course, some stick time!

Simulator Experience $115

Not sure about really getting off the ground? This thirty-minute flight takes place in our full motion Redbird Advanced Aviation Training Device. Our full motion platform and control loading yoke help this simulator feel like the real airplane. Since we integrate simulator training with our Private Pilot Certification Course, it’s a great way to get an introduction while keeping your feet planted on terra firma.

You’ll typically take off from the Greater Rochester International Airport, turn north to the shore of Lake Ontario, fly east to Irondequoit Bay, continue south along the bay, past the city, and land. You’re at the controls most of the time. Don’t worry! The instructor will make the landing.
